What parents say

“First of all, a big thank-you for looking after our children, every single day! That is also why I would very much like to leave a positive review here. First with our older daughter, who is now at school, and now with our little one, we will soon have been sharing our everyday life for eight, nine years. And I can say with a clear conscience: we are super happy to spend this everyday life together with you.”

Kathrin, 2026 · originally published on Google (translated from German)

“We are very satisfied with the family day care. Our children love going there and feel at home. Both educators are warm, attentive, respond to each child individually and support the children in an age-appropriate way.

Communication with us parents is also straightforward and direct. Thanks to the short distances we quickly find out what is important and can talk at any time.

For us it is a lovely and trustworthy place of care, where we drop the children off every day with a good feeling.”

Alexandra, 2026 · originally published on Google (translated from German)

“The Kita was a real stroke of luck for us, and we are completely satisfied to this day. The atmosphere is warm and loving, and the children love going there. […] Susi cooked fresh and healthy food every day, which the children really like. Another plus is the good preparation for school. The children learn everything they will need later, from how to hold a pencil to writing their name, in a creative and playful way. That makes the transition to primary school much easier.”

Birke, 2026 · originally published on Google (translated from German)

“We have now been at the Kita for three years, by now with our third child. The Windelflitzer are like a small family. With a maximum of 10 children the group is manageable and everyone gets along really well. The educators Susi and Jenny look after and raise the little rascals with heart and sense. Overall we are absolutely delighted and can warmly recommend the Kita.”

Roger, 2026 · originally published on Google (translated from German)

“We would like to thank you, warmly, deeply and very much, for the wonderful time our two daughters were able to spend with you. They were and remain two very important companions in the very special first years of life […]! You made the two of them strong and brave and full of life, and us proud and grateful and amazed. It is impossible to put into words. Thank you for everything!”

Jenny and Jonathan, 2023 · from a thank-you card (translated from German)

“With all our hearts we say thank you, full of gratitude! Thank you for the loving support and reliable care of […]. So reliable and appreciative. He always felt at ease, and saying goodbye is hard for him. We parents are glad that we know […] is still with you. We have known it for a long time and stand by it: we parents could not have had it better. THANK YOU!”

Lucia and Klaas, 2024 · from a thank-you card (translated from German)

Frequently asked questions

What does care cost and how do I get a Kita voucher (Kita-Gutschein)?

In Berlin, family day care is free of charge for all children. For lunch, parents pay a meal cost contribution of 23 euros per month; with a valid berlinpass-BuT it is waived. For care you need a Kita voucher (Kita-Gutschein) from the youth welfare office (Jugendamt) of your district. From the first birthday, children are entitled to up to seven hours of care per day without a needs assessment; in the first year of life, need must be demonstrated. You can apply for the voucher at the earliest nine months before care begins and should submit it at least two months in advance.

Are you a “Tagesmutter” (childminder) or a Kita (daycare centre)?

In everyday German, people often say “Tagesmutter” (childminder). Officially, we are recognised early-years educators in family day care: we look after a small group of up to 10 children in a family atmosphere and are publicly funded through the youth welfare office. We are not a Kita (daycare centre) in the classical sense.

Full guide (in German)

From what age do you take children?

We take children from birth and accompany them until they start school. This usually gives us an age-mixed group in which the children learn from one another.

How does the settling-in period work?

We design the settling-in period in close coordination with the parents, tailored to their needs and to the individual needs of the child.

Full guide (in German)

What are meals like?

We always cook fresh. There is breakfast, lunch and an afternoon meal with fresh fruit and vegetables. We naturally take allergies and intolerances into account.

What are your opening hours?

We are here for the children Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm. Please bring your child by 9.00 am so that we can start the day together. You can read how a day with us goes in our concept.

How big is the group and who looks after the children?

Our group has a maximum of 10 children. They are looked after by two experienced, recognised early-years educators, Suzanne Busch and Jennifer Köster, who work together and cover for each other in case of illness. You can read more about us in the concept.

What does my child need to bring?

Please hand in nappies for your child regularly, plus a complete set of spare clothes for the season. Your child should be dressed for the weather and the season, with suitable headwear; in summer please apply sunscreen in the morning. Your child gets breakfast, lunch and an afternoon meal with us.

What happens if my child is ill?

In the case of contagious diseases such as scarlet fever, whooping cough or chickenpox, your child may not attend under the German Infection Protection Act. After a fever, your child must be fever-free for 24 hours; after diarrhoea or vomiting, symptom-free for 48 hours. You can report sickness by email or phone until 9.00 am. If a child falls ill during the day, we call you so that the child can be picked up quickly. More on this in the Concept.

What if one of you is ill?

Then we cover for each other. If a longer absence should ever occur, we look for a solution together with you that meets your child’s care needs.

Do you offer pre-school learning?

Yes. From the age of 5 we offer pre-school activities with quiet work, pre-writing exercises, numbers, letters and board games to prepare for school. For each child we also document development with BeoKiz, Berlin’s method for observation and documentation, in a portfolio that your child receives at the end of the care period. In the last year before school we discuss the learning documentation for the transition to primary school with you. More on this in the Concept.

When are you closed and when is holiday?

We set closing times and holidays at the latest in December of the previous year and announce them in writing. Training days are announced at least four weeks in advance. We are closed on public holidays in Berlin.

How long does it take to get a place and how does registration work?

Depending on current occupancy, it can take anything from a few days to several months until a place can be taken up. After we receive a place request, we usually get back to you within 24 hours and invite you to visit, so that you can get an impression of us, our work and our rooms in person. If we are a good match and you hold a valid Kita voucher, you present it to us. You conclude the care contract with the youth welfare office of the district in which our family day care is located (Tempelhof-Schöneberg). Once the contract is in place, care can start on time on the agreed date.
